What is your definition of art?

I believe art is the pursuit of the formal expression of an idea, of a message, a construction or even a function.

Is design an expression of art (an art form?)

There definitely is an artistic dimension to design. It shares a lot with art; for instance the issues of form, beauty, expression. But because it is bound to function, design is not art, which – at least since the beginning of the 20th. century – has no function other than being expression and reflection. This said, I strongly believe that the borders between art and design are permeable and worth crossing.
