The new series of events “Internetstadl"

Digital pioneers and online folklore

The new series of events “Internetstadl” – brings phenomena from the web to the real world.

Yami-Ichi, Cat Content, Trailblazers, Bring Your Own Beamer, Soylent? Do they mean nothing to you? The new monthly series of events “Internetstadl” offers an introduction to the digital future. The “Internetstadl” brings together creative and digital pioneers and turns online culture into an entertaining event format. Once a month visitors can experience the kitsch, the fun, the madness, the innovation and the genius of these digital pioneers.

“With this new format we are positioning ourselves as a space for digital culture in Düsseldorf and as pioneers of digital change. We want to encourage an entertaining yet critical interaction with modern cultural techniques, especially regarding the internet” says Alain Bieber, artistic director of the NRW-Forum Düsseldorf who curates the new series of events together with the net artist Florian Kuhlmann and the creator Thomas Artur Spallek.

First dates

In the context of the first edition on the 19th of February 2016, the “Internet Cat Video Festival” which has already reached cult status in the US will be organised for the first time in Germany in conjunction with the Walker Art Centre, Minnesota. Ever since its first edition at the Walker Art Centre in 2012 it has been attracting over 10.000 visitors every year. For the German premiere at the NRW-Forum Düsseldorf we will not just be presenting the world’s best online cat videos, but we will also award the “Golden Kitty”-Award for the best German cat video.

The second edition on the 18th of March 2016 will be about food hacking and the nutrition of the future. What would it be like if we could satisfy all of our nutritional needs with one drink or one biscuit that is perfectly matched to our personal requirements? Through a food hacking cooking class followed by a dinner, the “Internetstadl” will be teaching the basics of post-internet cooking. The second “Internetstadl” will be taking place as part of the “Digitale Düsseldorf” which will bring electronic music and an exhibition on the topic of digital art to the NRW-Forum Düsseldorf.

For the Night of Museums on 9th April 2016, the NRW-Forum Düsseldorf will be hosting a „Yami-Ichi“ as its third “Internetstadl”, an online flea market where internet-based goods and internet art products will be on offer. Founded in Japan, the internet Yami-Ichi is deliberately positioned outside the online mainstream and according to its creator, it restores some of the internet’s original anarchy. | http://yami-ichi.biz/
