Hybrid Nature

May 14 – October 29 2023

The landscape in the Hofgarten park as the central location of the Biennale will again receive a "digital extension", which this time deals with experiences of nature and space that do not yet exist as well as visions of a sustainable future.

In times of conflict and ongoing economic and ecological crises, nature has once again become an important place of retreat for people. The fear of excessive demands, dissolution of boundaries and loss promotes the need for places of recreation - places that enable a return to the essential.

Like Alice in Wonderland, visitors can embark on a fantastic walk; with incredible experiences of nature and hybrid plant and animal forms. As humans and nature converge, a variety of new landscapes emerge, inviting co-creation, discussion and exploration.

Augmented reality is not a technological gimmick; the works in this biennial challenge visitors and create productive ideas for a future beyond their imagination.
