Opening: 21/11/2019, 7 p.m.
Press preview: 21/11/2019, 11 a.m.
What does a young generation of photographers think, see, feel and produce? How does it understand its medium and deal with current events? From 22 November 2019 to 16 February 2020, the NRW-Forum Düsseldorf will once again be showing the best photography graduates in Germany with the exhibition “Gute aussichten 2019/2020” (Good Prospects 2019/2020), providing insights into current photographic discourses.
For the third time, the opening exhibition of the renowned young talent award “gute aussichten” will be held at the NRW-Forum Düsseldorf. From 22 November 2019 to 16 February 2020, the best final theses in the field of photography will again be on show, as will the “gute aussichten GRANT III”, the annual work and project fellowship for all previous award winners.
Once a year the jury of "gute aussichten - junge deutsche fotografie" selects the best works from the submissions of all universities in Germany with a course of studies in photography. After the opening exhibition in the NRW-Forum Düsseldorf, the selected artists will be presented in further exhibitions and actions nationally and internationally. "gute aussichten" was founded in 2004 by Josefine Raab and Stefan Becht. The jury included internationally renowned photographers and artists such as Andreas Gursky, Juergen Teller, Annelies Štrba, Norbert Bisky, Ulrich Seidl, Thomas Ruff and Herlinde Koelbl.
The artistic position on the jury this year will be taken by the young, Dutch and aspiring photographer and artist Louise te Poele. She belongs to a new generation of digital and international photographers who use all media and technical means to create their own images. In addition, this year's jury includes: the initiator of “gute aussichten”, art historian and curator Josefine Raab (Neustadt/Weinstrasse), art historian and cultural journalist Dr. Wibke von Bonin (Cologne), Luise Schröder, artist, photographer and “gute aussichten” award winner 2011/2012 (Paris, Leipzig), the head of photography at ZEIT Amélie Schneider (Hamburg), Stefan Becht, journalist and co-founder of gute aussichten, and Ingo Taubhorn, curator at the Haus der Photographie, Deichtorhallen Hamburg.
