Penis pictures have a long history, but their production and distribution has increased enormously due to digitalisation. Almost every second woman between the ages of 16 and 24 has already received an unsolicited nude photo online - this is often experienced as offensive and shameful. Sarah Koldehoff's new essay impressively shows how dick pics act as a sign of male dominance in the digital sphere, why they are so much more common than pussy pics - and discusses how involuntary recipients can deal with them.
The author presents her observations and theories and discusses body images with Alain Bieber, Artistic Director of the NRW Forum and curator of the exhibition Sex Now.
The book from the DIGITAL BILDKULTUREN series will be published on 18 September 2025 but will be available exclusively on this evening.
Sarah Koldehoff, who grew up in Cologne, studied psychology and writes about society and psychology as a freelance journalist for Die Zeit and Spektrum der Wissenschaft, among others.
