*Ballroom originated in New York in the 1960s – driven by the Black and Latin American LGBTQIA+ community. People came together at so-called balls to celebrate each other, perform and compete against each other in various categories. The focus is on dance, fashion, self-expression and competition. Participants compete in categories such as voguing, runway, lip-sync, drag or sex siren – often inspired by the aesthetics and glamour of the fashion world.
