Accessibility

The NRW-Forum should be accessible to everyone - regardless of physical or cognitive abilities.

This page provides information on structural accessibility, support services and special guided tours. It is based on an independent audit carried out by ‘Reisen für Alle’ on 12 December 2024.

accessible travel to the venue

Travelling by car

  • Two marked disabled parking spaces are located on Joseph-Beuys-Ufer, in the immediate vicinity of the entrance to the NRW-Forum.
  • The parking spaces are approx. 250 cm wide and 500 cm long and are located on a level, paved surface.
  • The distance to the barrier-free entrance is approx. 20 metres. The path to the entrance is level, low-vibration and at least 150 cm wide.
  • The surface consists of firmly laid, narrow-jointed slabs that are non-slip even in rainy weather.
  • The access routes are visually rich in contrast, clearly laid out and easily recognisable as an entrance area from a distance.

Public transport

  • The Tonhalle/Ehrenhof underground station (lines U70, U74, U75, U76, U77) is about 450 metres from the main entrance.
  • Written information about the stop is available.
  • There are tactile guide strips and high-contrast visual floor indicators on the platform, which enable visually impaired people to find their way safely.
  • The route from the platform to the NRW-Forum is tactilely detectable and visually easy to recognise. Seating along the route provides additional relief for people with limited mobility.
  • A lift is available, but without an acoustic floor announcement.
  • An emergency call in the lift is confirmed acoustically, but this does not provide any visual feedback for people with hearing impairments.

On Site

  • For visitors with reduced mobility and pushchairs, the NRW-Forum Düsseldorf is accessible without steps via a barrier-free side entrance. This is located at the rear of the building and is signposted via a tactile and visually high-contrast signposting system. Access is via a lift, which is opened by the service staff. There is a bell at this entrance which can be used to call the service staff.
  • The main entrance door is double-leaf and has a clear passage width of up to 183 cm. There is an automatic door opening system at the barrier-free entrance.
  • The entrance area is visually rich in contrast and easily recognisable thanks to a tactile change of floor covering.
